Ben Strevens was thrilled with the level of his side’s performance after Dagenham & Redbridge returned to winning ways with a resounding 4-0 success over AFC Fylde on Saturday.

The Daggers’ form throughout their National League campaign had been patchy coming into this game, but a ruthless second-half display put concerns to rest.

“It was a really positive day for all of us,” said Strevens.

“We were really clinical in the second half with the chances we took, but we had lots of final third moments in the first half without probably making the right decisions.

"It needed a really excellent goal from Chris (N’Guessan) to get us that lead going into half-time.

“All in all, it’s been a couple of good weeks. Winning 5-1 last weekend [at Leiston in the FA Cup] and then following it up with a 4-0 victory today is pleasing, but more pleasing as it was in front of our own fans as well.”

Christian N’Guessan’s first career goal set Strevens’ men on their way to another convincing National League win, as the midfielder looks to impress after swapping Sutton United for Daggers last summer.

“We really like Chris. He had a period not long back where we really had to manage him,” Strevens told the club website.

“He was really struggling with a few bits and pieces, so we weren’t starting him but bringing him on. He’s had constant training now for a good few weeks, and he’s getting back to the player we saw at the start of the season.

“We joked that we were going to make sure we got him a goal this season. We were talking about set plays and different things, but yeah, it was a fantastic finish, and I’m really pleased for him because he’s a top lad as well.”

On what the win can do for the group following another important league victory for the Daggers, Strevens looked ahead to their midweek fixture against his former club Eastleigh.

“Hopefully, it will give us confidence. We know the nature of this league, and it will be another tricky test on Tuesday evening,” he said.

"They’re above us in the table. They’ve got firepower and top players all over the pitch as well. I know them really well, obviously. It’s going to be a really tough challenge, but my message to the boys after the Yeovil game [a 1-0 defeat at Huish Park] is how we respond to these things.

“We got a good response in the FA Cup, as we made sure we got through. We knew we had these two home games up coming back-to-back, and the first part of it is done.

"But now we refocus to try to get a positive result on Tuesday, and if we can do that, we’ll be sitting in a nice position again.”

Dagenham travel to Oldham on Saturday to face Micky Mellon’s in-form side, who sit four points above them in the National League table.
