Dagenham & Redbridge upset the form book to shock National League leaders Notts County with a memorable win.

With manager Daryl McMahon having left the club by mutual agreement on Friday, coaches Steve Gritt and Dave Jupp took charge of the team at Meadow Lane.

And they could not have asked for a better start, after Inih Effiong's late goal secured all three points to boost their push for a promotion play-off place.

County's Aaron Nemane fired the first chance of the game wide in the opening minute, with Macaulay Langstaff off-target when the ball was floated into the box on 10 minutes.

But Daggers went close on the quarter-hour mark when George Saunders saw his corner glanced just wide at the near post by Dean Rance.

The home side opened the scoring on 21 minutes, though, when Ruben Rodrigues found himself in a pocket of space to beat Elliot Justham from range.

However, it was all square again just after the half-hour mark as Daggers claimed an impressive equaliser.

Captain Matt Robinson found Junior Morias on the left to play in Sam Ling with a fine pass, before he spotted Angelo Balanta in space to tuck the ball home.

And Justham saved well low down from Rodrigues towards the end of the half as it remained level at the break.

The hosts made a bright start to the second half, with Daggers grateful to Harry Phipps for a timely block just past the hour mark.

Goalscorer Balanta made way for Effiong soon after, with Saunders replaced by Myles Weston for the last quarter of an hour.

And the visitors had a let-off when former Dagger Jodi Jones cut inside and saw his shot hit the outside of the post on 79 minutes.

The 120 travelling Daggers fans in a crowd approaching the 7,500 mark - and those watching the live BT Sport coverage at home - were then sent into raptures four minutes from time when Effiong fired in off the underside of the crossbar after a surging run by Robinson.

Langstaff then hit a post and Daggers cleared two more efforts off the line in a frantic climax, before celebrating an unexpected triumph.
