Dagenham & Redbridge boss Daryl McMahon admitted it was 'really frustrating' to bow out of the Isuzu FA Trophy after a 2-0 home defeat against Maidenhead United.

Shawn McCoulsky put the Magpies ahead after just seven minutes at Victoria Road and Charlee Adams struck from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time after Elliott Johnson was sent off.

And Alan Devonshire's side were able to hold onto their lead in the second half to ensure a place in the 16 at the expense of Daggers.

"Really frustrating. For all our possession, we've made two errors that have cost us the game and cost us Elliott Johnson for a game, which is disappointing," McMahon told the club website.

"Disappointed to go out, we wanted to progress. We made some changes to get some minutes into the players' legs, which I thought was a positive for us, in terms of getting people on the pitch again.

"Disappointing to go out but a lot of good stuff as well in the game I felt for us, we really controlled the game well, we passed the ball as good as we have done in the last three or four weeks to be totally honest.

"In particular I thought Omar Mussa had a terrific game for us and lots of things for us to build on."

McCoulsky converted the first chance of the tie after being played through by Sam Beckwith to curl a shot past Elliot Justham, with Omar Mussa seeing a free-kick saved and Junior Morias heading the rebound high and wide.

Johnson was dismissed after fouling McCoulsky in the box, with Adams converting from the spot, and Daggers saw Morias have a shot blocked after the restart, then fire another effort just wide.

Josh Hare's looping cross just evaded Paul McCallum late on as Daggers were dumped out but McMahon found some positives.

"We got some great opportunities, put some great crosses into the box in the first half, but we didn't manage to test the keeper enough," he added.

"Football is about both boxes, you win and lose in the boxes.

"We made two errors for the goals, I don't think we've been cut open at all in the whole game, even when we had 10 men we still dominated the ball, dominated territory as well really without hurting them enough.

"We've got to do a bit better in terms of the final third, but overall with people coming in who haven't played for quite a while, in Manny [Onariase] and even Phippsy, who has been out for a while has played Tuesday night, coming back from suspension, you've had Lingy back in, who hasn't played for a while, Junior [Morias] didn't play Tuesday night, Mussa hasn't played for a while, so there's lots of positives for us to take out."

Daggers return to National League action in midweek, as Eastleigh visit on Tuesday, and McMahon wants to bounce back quickly.

"All the games are tough, we say this every week, there's no easy games in our league, it's a tough league. It's why you see results like you do," he said.

"We've looked at Eastleigh already, we know Lee [Bradbury] has got a good group there, and we look forward to welcoming them on Tuesday night."
