Dagenham Boxing Club began a busy spell by hosting their biggest ever female training squad session at their gym recently.
The event attracted 51 female boxers from all over the south of England, including national and international champions from the age of 10 upwards.
Dagenham’s two championship boxers, Clarissa Rougier and Bailey Wallace, were two of the girls who benefited from this fantastic day of female focused boxing development led by England coach Quinton Shillingford, and organised by London Boxing secretary Terri Kelly.
Rougier is reigning two-time National Female Development champion, while Wallace made it to the final of the same championships.
Many additional club coaches also attended and lent a hand to offer a clinic in coaching for all the girls, all of whom were offered additional sparring in groups, based on age, weight and experience.
Dagenham club secretary Dan O’Sullivan said: “It is the biggest event of its kind, which now takes place at different locations around the south of England, every other month.
“Much credit must go to Terri Kelly, who is also a National Female co-ordinator, and one of the main people behind Europe’s biggest Box Cup (the Haringey Box Cup).”
Dagenham have entered six of their boxers in the newly created London Boxing Senior Intermediate Championships, for adult boxers who have some experience, but who have not yet entered the National Elite Championships.
This event is seen as the perfect bridge for the gap between Novice and Elite level and Dagenham will have George Landers (69kg welterweight), Joel Brown (69kg welterweight), Abdoul Toure (75kg middleweight), Adrian Lionel (75kg middleweight), Martin Dimitrov (81kg light heavyweight) and Clarissa Rougier (64kg light-welterweight) in action.
The championships get underway at Dagenham’s new favoured boxing venue – ‘Live at The Roundhouse’ – in Lodge Avenue on February 3-4.
Daggers host their first show of 2018 at the same venue on the evening of February 16 and have a team of selected boxers at Bristol for the Western Counties v London match the next day.
