Dagenham & Redbridge loanee Ben Goodliffe delighted to get off the mark for the club as he helped inspire a late 2-1 win over Hartlepool United.
A stoppage-time winner from Matt Robinson and a 90th minute equaliser from Goodliffe saw the Daggers complete a late comeback to beat the Pools and make it four consecutive wins in the National League.
And the 19-year-old also praised defender Luke Pennell for creating space for him to nod the ball home at the back post.
“Of course, it was good for me and Pens – Pens said he deserves some of the credit as he took three players out the way and created space at the back post, but I’m delighted.”
The Wolverhampton Wanderers man did feel the Daggers didn’t play their best in the first-half but showed resilience to turn their fortunes around.
“To be honest with you the first-half wasn’t great; I think it was one of our worst performances in a while.
“It didn’t show us or what we’re capable of, it resulted in them getting a penalty in the 12th minute, which to be fair some would have given it and some wouldn’t have.
“Second-half we had a different game plan and to be fair we stuck to that, and we showed resilience to keep going and get the two goals in the last three or four minutes.”
The youngster admitted the Pools posed a different threat to most their recent opponents and did cause them a fair few problems.
“They had a different way of playing to what we’ve recently come up against, they played three at the back with two wide players, that caused us danger.
“Especially long balls in behind and we were left one on one at times as we were chasing the game.
“They did play balls over the top at times and counter-attacked us.”
Daggers have now picked up six wins out of their last seven National League fixtures and Goodliffe says confidence is high.
“I think that’s six out of seven now, we’ve got lots of confidence.
“We stuck at it, we got it back to 1-1 but we knew we were going to win the game.”
The defender also feels they created their own luck at Victoria Park.
“At times we are getting the luck, but I think you can’t sometimes say its luck when you’ve got good quality.
“I wouldn’t say it was luck as we did play well in the second-half.”
