A shisha lounge may be coming to an Afro-Caribbean restaurant in Dagenham.
The proposal submitted to Barking and Dagenham Council relates to Lekki Lounge in Porters Avenue.
According to documents accompanying the application, the venue has had "an ongoing history of fast food use", which it intends to upkeep.
If approved by the council, the restaurant would continue to operate as a food business whilst offering customers shisha to the rear of the restaurant.
Proposed site plans detail hopes for the shisha lounge to be separate from the front of the restaurant, away from the seating and waiting areas.
Site photos within the documents appear to show ongoing works at the restaurant which could potentially be linked to an application for a rear extension that was approved by the council.
A planning statement submitted by Lyondale planning and architectural designers states that the addition of the shisha lounge would only make up 20 per cent of the business.

It reads: "We believe the proposal compliments to the already approved development site and is not in any way detrimental to the local area and its site constraints.
"The plans utilise the site to its full potential both functionally and from a business point of view.
"The proposed development is a positive (addition) to the area and would be welcomed business for future customers".
