A man has been accused of slashing a toddler’s throat and cutting a schoolgirl’s face, a court has heard.
Kulvinder Ram, 48, is alleged to have attacked two children, aged two and eight, and a woman who tried to protect them in First Avenue, Dagenham on October 25.
All three victims were treated in hospital for their injuries, which have since been deemed non life-threatening.
Ram, who was wearing a grey sweatshirt, stared at the floor during a hearing at Barkingside Magistrates Court yesterday (October 28) where he was assisted by a Punjabi interpreter.
Prosecutor Jeannel Evelyn Ambrose said the attack involved "slashing the throat" of the two-year-old boy and cutting the girl's face from the corner of her mouth to her ear.
The woman, in her 30s, sustained injuries while attempting to protect the children from being attacked.
Prosecutor Jeannel Evelyn Ambrose detailed the severity of the assault to the court and said that Ram "attacked all three complainants with a knife".
District Judge Jonathan Moffatt deemed the case too serious for Magistrates Court to handle and told Ram: "For the time being, I'm sending your case to the Old Bailey.
“You have given no explanation as to why these events occurred.”
Ram, of Dagenham, is accused of three counts of attempted murder.
He has been remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey on November 11.
