Media student Kevin Aquino has just completed a “dream come true” internship with a film studio on his road to a career in the movie industry.

The 19-year-old from Romford had completed a BTec in media studies at Barking and Dagenham College with top grades this summer, when he was encouraged by his tutors to apply for the internship with Dimension Studios in Wimbledon.

“The application was tough and competitive,” Kevin recalls. “But I got the chance to learn the best virtual production techniques, working alongside professionals and learning from them. This was a dream come true.”

The nine-week internship started in July and included board and lodging and transport to the studios, with a certificate after completion ready to apply for a permanent job.

It was arranged through a project started in 2020 as a pipeline for ‘under-represented communities’ to get work experience towards careers in the entertainment industry. Apprentices get paid while continuing their education and professional development, with mentorships and job placements.
