An Only Fools and Horses superfan from Dagenham was given a fitting sendoff at his funeral with a themed hearse.

David Adams' love for the classic British sitcom began when the first episode aired on television back in 1981.

His passion for Del Boy and his family's antics remained steadfast until his death at age 58, even playing a part in his funeral plans.

The superfan and father of three told his family he wanted a hearse with a "special touch", with his wish fulfilled with the help of funeral arranger Charlotte Pinney.

Deanna, Brendan and Jody, David’s children, said: “His favourite character was always Grandad, but Uncle Albert was his close second.

Friends and family were able to say their final 'bonjours' to David when he was transported to his funeral service in a Trotter's Independent Traders' Reliant Regal hearse.

His children said: "The day was exactly how we imagined it, certainly surprising the guests, and I just know that Dad would have loved it too.”

Charlotte, from Co-op Funeralcare Dagenham, said the themed hearse brought a smile to people's faces.

She said: “When I heard about David’s love for Only Fools and Horses, I just knew we had to get the Reliant Regal involved.

"David’s funeral (was) a true reflection of his character and sense of humour which helped put a smile on people’s faces as they said their goodbyes."
