More new homes have been completed at Barking’s massive Gascoigne development
The latest phase of 102 properties at Gascoigne East are now ready to rent, according to Barking and Dagenham Council's regeneration arm Be First.
They are the latest batch of properties being built at the estate and follow on from the completion of another block earlier this year.
All the properties are connected to a district heating system and designed with energy efficiency that produces 40 per cent less CO2 emissions, Be First said.
“The development is going from strength to strength,” Be First director Tim Porter explained. “We are delivering a large-scale transformation and providing below market rent options and assistance with reducing energy bills.”
The new Gascoigne neighbourhood is set to be one of London's most sustainable, featuring three new parks, community gardens and orchards, and pedestrian-friendly streets and courtyards.
Be First, owned by the council but run independently, aims to complete 50,000 new homes and create 20,000 new jobs across its projects by 2037.
It has invested £75million in east London construction companies to date, creating 900 jobs.
