Children enjoyed a school sports festival arranged for them by college students.
The four-day event is now an annual fixture on the calendar for Rush Green Primary School, arranged by students at Barking and Dagenham College opposite.
“The children loved it,” Rush Green Primary teacher Nicola Seabrook said. “We have had so many great comments about this year’s sports days from parents and especially the children.”
The college invited the youngsters to use its large sports field, with plenty of space for spectators like mums and dads to cheer on the 600 pupils over the four days.
Evens included the traditional egg-and-spoon race, relay sprint, football and hockey dribble, assault course, penalty shoot-out and quoits relay, as well as other competitions like dodgeball and capture the flag.
The students, who are studying sports courses at the college, liaised with the school and came up with activities and taking on roles to keep track on events, such as coordinators, marshals and race organisers.
College sports lecturer Dean Cutting said: “The students planned and organised the whole event. It was their chance to do something for our local community.”
Organising sports events and leadership are two course units the students complete towards their BTEC qualification.
