There were severe delays on the District line in east London earlier today due to a “customer incident”.

London Ambulance Service (LAS) were called to Plaistow station - which serves the District and Hammersmith & City lines - just before 1.30pm today (December 23).

Medics arrived at the scene in less than four minutes and treated a man for a head injury.

He was then rushed to a major trauma centre as a priority.

A LAS spokesperson said: “We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team.

“We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.”

Plaistow station was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident but has since reopened.

This caused severe delays on the District line westbound between Barking and Earl's Court. The line is now reporting good service in all directions.

One social media user took to X after seeing London’s Air Ambulance at the scene.

They said: “I was in the garden when I heard @LDNairamb flying over, hadn’t realised it landed close by, across the road from Plaistow Station.

“Impressive landing given the tight spot and wind today. Lots of emergency crews there.

“Thinking about anyone hurt/treated at the station.”
