Residents in Goresbrook ward should make their way to the ballot box to choose their preferred candidate in today’s by-election.
The election is being held after Cllr Louise Couling - also known as ‘Lollipop Louise’ - resigned from her post due to ill health.
The Labour party councillor and trade unionist used to be a lollipop lady before she won a council seat in the 2010 elections.
The candidates are Simon Bremner (Labour), Robert Hills (Liberal Democrats), John Dias-Broughton (UK Independence Party), Mohammed Riaz (Conservative), and Bob Taylor (British National Party).
Polling stations are the Hatfield Community Centre in Hatfield Road, the Dawson Christian Centre in Hedgemans Road, St Peter’s Parish Centre in Goresbrook Road and Harmony House in Goresbrook Road.
Polling hours are 7am - 10pm.
