Essex Senior League: Barking 8 Tower Hamlets 0
Barking achieved their highest score in 10 years as they thrashed Tower Hamlets 8-0 in the Essex Senior League last night (Tuesday).
The Blues were looking to maintain their challenge for the title after beating Waltham Forest on Saturday.
While Ade Abayomi’s Mile End youngsters were hoping to bounce back after suffering defeat against rivals Sporting Bengal United.
It took until the 26th minute at Mayesbrook Park for the scoring to be opened, but Kieran English made it 1-0.
But the floodgates still didn’t open as only James Peagram scored again for Glen Golby and Steve Willis’ men before the break.
After half time, however, Barking stepped up another level and made it 3-0 when Peagram added his second of the game in the 47th minute.
He completed his hat-trick seven minutes later to cap a good night at the office before he was replaced by David Sangolo.
Next to get on the scoresheet was Joe Pearman as he made it 5-0 on the hour mark before Lamar Reynolds took centre stage.
The former Thurrock forward scored his first in the 62nd minute and doubled his tally four minutes late to make it 7-0.
And his treble was to follow in the 72nd minute to cap a great night for Barking, but a terrible evening for Hamlets.
It was Blues biggest victory since defeating Beaumont Athletic 13-0 in a League Cup match on September 23 2006.
Golby’s men remain second in the table and just two points behind leaders FC Romania ahead of facing Ilford on Saturday.
Abayomi’s youngsters stay 17th and things don’t get any easier this weekend as they face top of the table Romania.
