Ipswich Wanderers 0 Sporting Bengal United 2

Sporting Bengal booked their place in the FA Cup preliminary round with replay success in Suffolk last night.

Imrul Gazi’s men made the long trip up the A12 after Saturday’s original meeting between the sides had ended in a goalless stalemate at Wadham Lodge.

Bengal had produced the better chances in that match, without taking them, but made sure this time around.

Codey Cameron and Chris Wright were the men on target for the visitors as they banked £1,500 in prize money and set up a mouthwatering east London derby with in-form Clapton on August 20.

Boss Gazi could not hide his delight on Twitter, posting: “ABSOLUTELY BUZZING!! My lads were WARRIORS & thoroughly deserve it #Livingthedream #FACup #SportinFamily #Heros.”

And Clapton rival Michael Walther was quick to offer his praise too, tweeting: “Fantastic result guys! Watched you guys on Sunday, thought you was quality! Thoroughly deserved!”

Clapton 4 Stansted 3

Michael Walther’s Tons maintained their fine start to the new season with Essex Senior League victory over the Airportmen at the Old Spotted Dog last night.

Having already defeated east London rivals Tower Hamlets and London Bari in league and cup action, Tons made it three wins in a row on their own turf after a seven-goal thriller.

The two sides had met in the final of the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy last season, with Clapton running out 4-0 winners at Burnham.

But they needed two late goals to secure the league points this time around, after twice coming from behind in front of a crowd of 241.

Stansted opened the scoring through Sam Asford, but Will Mowbray and Roddy Lemba replied for Tons before the break.

Jack Isherwood’s 20-yard free-kick squared matters once more after the restart, before a fine team move put them 3-2 up.

But Tons had the last word with a late brace, including a last-gasp winner, to come out on top once again.

Kristian Haighton praised the supporters, tweeting: “Quality support tonight from the fans! Another 3 points. Great strength to grind out the win!”

Assistant manager Andre Thomas added: “It’s great for the neutral but I have not time for 4-3 wins. Call me boring but I’ll take a 1-0, less stress #Tons.”

Barking 3 West Essex 0

Barking maintained their perfect start to the new campaign with a comfortable win over their Mayesbrook Park tenants.

Having eased past Redbridge and Takeley in the Essex Senior League and FA Cup so far this term, Blues got their noses in front when John Bricknell fired a low shot into the corner of the net.

Blues doubled their advantage when Bricknell’s cross was headed on by Joe Pearman for Petrit Elbi to smash into the roof of the net and score for the third match in a row.

And the home side secured the points when a good move on the left ended with the ball being cut back for Elbi to sweep home his fifth goal of the campaign.

Redbridge 0 Takeley 2

Motormen suffered their third successive defeat of the new season at Oakside.

Beaten 4-0 by Barking on the opening day of the Essex Senior League campaign, then knocked out of the FA Cup by Waltham Forest after a 5-1 loss, the home side saw Jack Haspinall and Charlie Cole secure a third straight league win for the visitors.
