DEREK WHELLAMS Passed away peacefully in hospital on 4th March 2011, age 75 years. Whellams Sweet Shop owner for many years. Husband of Maureen. Dad to Susan and Debra and Grandad to Mathew, Stephen, Joe, Emma and Megan. Funeral service to be held at Holy Trinity Parish Church, Barkingside at 1pm on Wednesday 16th March followed by burial at Chigwell Cemetery.

I know it's late for tributes but I grew up in Barkingside and used to go to Whellams sweet shop through the 1960s and 70s. What a great traditional shop and Derek was one of those enthusiastic people that made the shop alive as were his family and staff. I remember he used to compete in the parents egg and spoon race and win it (lol) at Mossford Green in the late 1960s. Happy days and the shop the time and the man sadly missed but probably sells the best sweets in Heaven.
