Two incomings in a week are an indication of the injury crisis that has plagued Dagenham & Redbridge club in recent weeks, meaning the starting XI at the minute picks itself.
This was only added to last Saturday with Sam Ling and Paul McCallum both forced off in a frustrating 2-0 defeat on the road in Halifax.
Just as we looked to find rhythm, a setback, leading to little annoyance at the performance but frustration at circumstances on Saturday.
Nonetheless, there was an awareness that we couldn’t feel sorry for ourselves and had to raise our game at home to high-flying Boreham Wood - there was an expectation once more that Dagenham were to do it the hard way.
Though not quite being able to complete the feat of overcoming Luke Garrard’s side, there was no doubt we could take heart from a determined display, which saw the possibility of taking all three points towards the end of an impressive second half.
That was the picture of the week but where does that fit into the big picture of the season so far and the league standings?
Well, it’s a rather steady position being four points off of the play-offs but there is a need to push on now and really kickstart the season, in spite of injuries.
There is no doubt that things have settled down in recent weeks, more assured defensive displays going some way to securing the odd point, evident again on Tuesday night.
It’s clear to see the correlation between this and Harry Phipps’ calming, yet commanding presence at centre back - a real positive factor at the minute for the Daggers.
However, there is a necessity to not lose the attacking firepower and that edge to go and take all three points, and secure a balance between both defence and attack going forwards.
With three draws in the last four games there appears to be some good performances but an inability to find convincing results.
Don’t get me wrong, Tuesday was a good result, but we need more of that injection of creativity that Myles Weston and Omar Mussa brought to the game in the second half to get us over the line. Especially, in games like this weekend’s against Wealdstone where there is a pressure to get all three points and end the winless run.
Reverting to the wing-back system, albeit forced as Daryl McMahon admitted, may go some way to striking that balance the manager has always sought - encouraging it was that there was a solid defensive display against a good side with that 3-5-2 system.
Wealdstone themselves will be desperate for a victory to rediscover something of their earlier season form, going into this one low on confidence with four straight league defeats - the latest a 6-1 home annihilation at the hands of Notts County.
Hopefully the injury-stricken Daggers can fight their way to victory in front of the home crowd and put an end to the winless league run.
Until next week, Come On You Daggers!
