Harry Redknapp and Sky Sports News presenter Hayley McQueen help out Bloomberg traders
They are used to making and breaking deals and household football names Harry Redknapp and Hayley McQueen joined the Bloomberg traders during a star-studded global charity event today (Wednesday).
The duo represented Prostate Cancer UK at the fourth annual Bloomberg Tradebook Charity Day at Bloomberg Tradebook in London.
Every year Bloomberg Tradebook employees across the globe unite with their clients to raise money for worthy causes by donating trading commissions to the charities who take part in the Charity Day, and since 2012 they have raised more than $2.7m.
Prostate Cancer UK is proud to be a part of the 2015 extravaganza, which stretched to the Bloomberg offices in New York and Hong Kong, and São Paulo. Amid a big-match atmosphere, staff joined the festivities by sporting fancy dress outfits.
Aside from Prostate Cancer UK’s top sporting duo, Sir Ian McKellen, Barbara Windsor, Gillian Anderson, and Sarah Harding spearheaded a stellar list of stars in the capital, who had the trading floor brimming with excitement.
One of the most recognisable figures along the touchline throughout the past four decades, the 68-year-old Redknapp, who recently added Men United to a stellar CV that also includes West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, AFC Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Southampton and QPR, joined McQueen, a familiar face from Sky Sports News.
The duo mingled with employees on the trading floor and took part in phone transactions as deals were struck across the world directly with Bloomberg Tradebook clients.
Redknapp, who lost close friend John Bond to the disease, said: “We’ve all had people in our lives that have been affected by prostate cancer.
“What Bloomberg is doing is amazing and there was a real buzz around the place. I’m really pleased to lend my support; anything we can do to raise awareness has got to be good.
“People always complement me on my negotiation skills in the transfer market, so I guess the trading floor is an apt location, and it was great to help seal some big deals and raise awareness of a fantastic charity, Prostate Cancer UK.”
McQueen added: “There was a big-match atmosphere on the trading floor, so it was great my part in an exciting – and life-changing – day.
“In my job for Sky Sports News I’ve covered some big transfer deals, and this offered me the opportunity to experience the same kind of buzz as big business transactions took place.
“It was great to work alongside Harry and see him in action, and I got in on the action when he struck a deal as well.
“Prostate cancer is a disease that affects so many people; not just men, but their friends, families and loved ones. It was great to be part of a special day and help raise money for a charity very close to my heart, Prostate Cancer UK.”
James Beeby, Director of Fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK, said: “We were delighted to be a part of the Bloomberg Tradebook Charity Day.
“It was a fun-packed day and Hayley and Harry were a perfect double act to nudge some big deals over the line and help us raise some vital money to combat this disease.
“Bloomberg Tradebook generously donating the day’s trading commissions is the perfect example of what we call Men United; people getting together to do something great and help beat prostate cancer.
“On behalf of all men and their friends and loved ones affected by the disease, we say a sincere thanks.”
David Masullo, Head of Sales, EMEA from Bloomberg Tradebook said: “Philanthropy is at the core of our culture and a driving force behind the various initiatives we support throughout the year.
“We were delighted to have Prostate Cancer UK as a charity partner for this year’s event and look forward to lending our traders’ talent to support worthwhile causes.”
